Lens Compression
Canon 5D Mark III and a 24-70mm lens
ISO 160 f/5.0 1/320th focal length 70mm
The idea behind lens compression is utilizing a telephoto lens zoomed in from a distance to “flatten” the foreground with the background or make different planes appear to be on the same plane. Here I used my 24-70mm lens zoomed all the way in at a low depth of field aperture to make these people seem as if they are all in the same row when they were actually more spaced out. The fog is also helping with this illusion here. This is why you’ll see fashion photographers using big telephoto lenses like the 70-200mm. They may look like they’re on safari but really they are creating a blurred background behind a model where everything on the person is tack sharp (better to sell jewelry and clothes!)
